Would Red Sox Fans Riot If J.D. Martinez Or Mookie Betts Got Traded?

The Score // Michael Bradburn
“If we don’t start playing better, J.D. Martinez, Mookie Betts, maybe myself, we could get traded,” Price told Alex Speier of the Boston Globe. “We’re, what, 30th in minor-league systems? We’re dead last. We don’t play better, Mookie Betts will be traded, J.D. Martinez will be traded. It will be tough for a while here.”
I’m going to say this before I get ahead of myself. Mookie Betts isn’t going to be a free agent after the 2020 season. He’s just 14-for-70 with three home runs and one stolen base so far in 2019. J.D. Martinez can opt-out this year. To do so, the two-time All-Star and three-time Silver Slugger would be walking away from the three years and $62.45 million remaining on his current contract.
I’m not saying it’s definitely going to happen but it’s definitely going to happen. If the Red Sox keep playing the same mediocre baseball they have been playing this season, the stars will want OUT. Nothing against Betts or J.D. but I wouldn’t blame them either if they left the Red Sox to chase big money in another market.
With stats like these I would run for the hills too. Will Red Sox fans riot? If you’re a Red Sox fan let me know.
